Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Bentota Beach Resort

Welcome at the airport and scenic drive along the coast to Bentota (approx. 2 hours). Check in to your beachfront boutique hotel. Afternoon at leisure to explore the pristine Bentota Beach, swim in the warm Indian Ocean, or relax by the pool. Evening welcome dinner with fresh seafood and tropical cocktails as the sun sets over the ocean.

Day 2: Bentota River Safari & Turtle Hatchery

Morning catamaran sailing along the Bentota coastline with the sea breeze in your hair. After lunch, cruise through the Madu Ganga river system — a maze of mangrove-lined waterways home to monitor lizards, monkeys, and over 70 bird species. Visit the famous Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery to see endangered sea turtles being nursed back to health and baby turtles being released at sunset.

Day 3: Galle Fort & Southern Coast

Drive along the stunning coastal road to historic Galle Fort — a UNESCO World Heritage Site blending Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonial architecture. Explore boutique shops, art galleries, and charming cafes within the fort walls. Walk the ramparts at sunset with panoramic ocean views. Stop to photograph the iconic stilt fishermen of Koggala. Evening at leisure in Unawatuna.

Day 4: Whale Watching & Surfing in Weligama

Early morning whale watching expedition from Mirissa harbour. Spot blue whales (the largest animal on Earth), sperm whales, and playful spinner dolphins in their natural habitat. After lunch, head to Weligama Bay for a professional surfing lesson — the gentle waves here are perfect for beginners while advanced surfers can tackle nearby reef breaks. Day 5: Pigeon Island Snorkeling & Nilaveli

Scenic drive (or optional domestic flight) to the east coast. Boat transfer to Pigeon Island National Park — Sri Lanka's premier snorkeling destination. Swim among blacktip reef sharks, hawksbill turtles, and hundreds of colorful reef fish in crystal-clear waters. Absolutely! Weligama Bay has gentle, rolling waves that are perfect for first-time surfers. Our certified instructors provide all equipment and begin with beach safety and technique lessons before entering the water. Most beginners are standing on the board within the first session.

The south and west coasts are best from November to April with calm seas and sunny weather. The east coast (Pigeon Island, Nilaveli) is ideal from May to September. We adjust the itinerary based on your travel dates to ensure the best coastal experience.

While wildlife can never be 100% guaranteed, Mirissa has one of the highest whale sighting rates in the world — over 95% success rate during peak season (Dec-April). If no whales are spotted, we offer a complimentary second trip (subject to availability and weather).
