Galle to Yala

 Suggested Itinerary: Galle →  Yala (Evening Safari)

⏱️ 09:00 – Depart Galle

Leave Galle by private car/minivan with your driver.

Drive time: ~4 hours (Galle → Tissamaharama / Yala area) by road via A2 & Southern Expressway route.


 13:30 – Lunch in Tissamaharama

Stop for a nice local or restaurant lunch in Tissamaharama (Tissa) — a good food stop before safari.

Options include local cuisine, Sri Lankan rice & curry, or lighter meals.


14:00 – Enter Yala National Park (Afternoon/Evening Safari)

Enter via the Palatupana / Katagamuwa gate (most common).

Afternoon safaris typically run until around 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM.


🐾 14:00–17:30 – Safari in Yala

You’ll spend about 3.5 – 4 hours exploring the park, looking for wildlife such as:

Leopards (Yala has one of the highest densities in the world)

Elephants

Crocodiles & water buffalo

Birds and other mammals

Wetlands, lagoons, and open grasslands
Note: Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, but later afternoon is good light/time for animals.


 17:30 – Return to Galle

After safari, head back to your vehicle.

Return drive: ~4 hours back to Galle .

 Book jeep & park ticket together with your operator so there are no surprises at the gate.
Travel early from Galle to maximize time — avoid rush hour and use the expressway.
 Safari vehicles usually carry up to 6 people — more people = lower per-person cost.
 Bring water, sunscreen, hat, and binoculars.
